Creative Tips

I have taken on a new project and have started a free tip website called Creative Inspirations . I have always been interested in all books that talk about Creativity and Creative Coaches like Eric Masiel. If you have a creative tip you would like to share with my readers please email me at sorrell@creativechick.com. You will get full credit, so include your first name and where you live.

The whole purpose for this site is to help others when they have been boxed in and don't know how to start a project and need that creative spark. I know I have need prompts in helping me in my artwork and I am always getting asked "how did you do that?" or "where did you get the idea for that piece?". This is my solution is to creative a place to post creative ideas and hopefully get readers to participate too.

Happy Spring Chicken!!

Little House Art Studios will be taking a vacation from teaching until later in the summer.

I will be teaching the Fiber Collage Workshop in August. I have two workshops set up.
The first one will be August 11th and 18th (Mondays) or you can take it on Saturdays August 16th and 23rd. I am trying to offer it at two different times this summer session.

My online classes will start its Spring/Summer Session in May.

Just a reminder that I will be in Maine at Haystack School for Arts and Crafts, May 15-18.

I will be teaching a mini Personal Symbols class through the Maine Crafts Association.

Fiber Day at Folk Art Center-Asheville, NC

I will be participating in Fiber Day, May 10th at the Southern Highlands Craft Guilds Fiber Day. If you live close, this is a great way to meet a lot of cool fiber artists. I participated last year and was honored to be included in this group of talented artists. The hours are 10-4 and we will be in the auditorium of the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Come out and meet my mother!! She loves coming to these shows with me and doing some shopping.

Fiber Collage Workshop

Susan Sorrell's Fabric Collage workshop is developed from the tradition of quilting and adding the creativity of art.

Taking scraps of fabric, appliqué, threads, beads and embellishments to open up a whole new world of possibilities for self-expression. Fabric collage can lend itself to be abstract, naive, complex or childlike. Designs can come from popular culture, sayings, songs, or stories.

This workshop is for all levels, and no sewing machine is required. Fabrics can be used clothing or bought from a store. Needle and thread are used like drawing tools to add details and color to a piece of fabric. Beads and embellishments make the piece glimmer and three-dimensional. There is no right or wrong way to do it, be experimental and make it as complex or easy as you wish. Think of it as a miniature quilt that has had “glamor" make over!!! The funkier...the better! You don't need any sewing skills; this is about expressing yourself with cloth!!!

Inside the Little House Studios

I wanted to post photos of a couple of the rooms, to give you an idea of that the inside looks like.

3 of the main rooms are painted Lavender. You can see Whoopi Doodle the Studio poodle guarding one of my art tables. :)

I have taken different angles of my painting room and design room. This is a view of the front of the room. The front door is on the right hand side of the window. My new windows came in last week, but haven't been put in yet.

I have 2 small fireplaces that have been bricked up,but you can still see them. So I am going to cover the opening with Black board to help keep the drafts out during the winter. This view is going into my kitchen studio.

My kitchen studio is painted a light teal blue
color. It has a wonderful old sink that is really deep. I pulled the old linoleum off of the floor and now it is use bare wood. I will paint the floors later on this fall with some funky designs. ;)

Also, I have a special place to the coffee pot!! It is a new one my mother bought for me as a "studio warming gift". I love this coffee favor call "Blueberry Cobbler". It smells so good!!

Here is a view of my easel with the beginnings of a painting. I started this painting about a year ago and I hope to get it done this year. ;)
